Youth Governors Leadership
Foundation Program (YGLF)
What is the program about?
The Youth Governors Leadership Foundation aims to empower teenagers to make a positive impact in their community. It is a five-month-long program in which 15- to 17-year-olds participate in various activities, including a weekend camp, group work, workshops, and online meetings to support their leadership journey. There is a 12-week community action project in which they are allocated two UN Sustainability Goals in groups of three to four, where they complete an action that will help solve these issues in their community.
What are we doing in the program?
Our UN Sustainability Goals are Clean Water & Sanitation and Affordable & Clean Energy. We are going into primary schools and teaching younger children about the issues of clean water and energy around the globe, and explaining how they can improve their communities' struggles.
Why did we choose to do the program?
Hi, my name is Emily, and I attend Loreto College Marryatville in Year 10. I applied because I am eager to engage with the workshops that the program provides and to improve the living situation for many individuals in Australia and globally. The clean water and energy goals are quite significant in current society, and as young people, I believe it is our role to provide a better future for those who come after us.
Hi, my name is Faith, and I am a current Year 10 student attending Norwood International High School. My ‘why’ stems from my hunger to continuously learn new things, finding unique ways to connect with other students who are like-minded. YGLF has granted me the perfect opportunity, as I am able to make new connections and contribute to creating a better future for us all.
Hi, I’m Aaron, and I chose to participate in the Governor's Leadership Foundation Program because I aim to understand the different aspects of leadership and be able to reflect on my strengths and weaknesses. It is an amazing learning opportunity, and I hope to achieve this understanding and ability with the information I learn throughout the duration of the program.

Our Vision & Mission
Our aim is to empower all South Australian households to live in homes with clean water and affordable energy available.
We are enabling primary school students teach their families how to make a difference.
By visiting schools, we aim to work towards teaching younger South Australians the importance of clean water and affordable energy, and what that means for households. We hope to encourage all students and thus households, to adopt water and energy saving habits at home. Furthermore, by talking to the younger generations, we get the privilege of hearing young voices, creating a community of young and enthusiastic individuals who value natural resources and strive for better futures.
This action will support long-term change by inspiring young people to be future leaders, encouraging increased participation in organisations, volunteering, and leadership opportunities.
By going into school, we aim to teach the younger generations about the impacts of restricted access to fundamental necessities. We strive to increase awareness among younger students in regard to the importance of clean water and clean energy. By targeting a specific demographic - Year 6 Students, we aim to raise the question in their minds before they go off to high school, and can begin implementing their own voices into projects that they are passionate about.
The repercussions of going into schools will be the increased awareness in regard to the inadequate global response to such pressing issues. By increasing awareness amongst young children, a movement and voice can be started for their future, as conversations at home can also alter the way a family approaches daily life with these concerns in mind.
